Adee Family Signature Quilt Donation To DCHA

By Cyndee Pattison

Jane Adee Mitchell Barker, wife of Delhi Telephone Company president Curtis
W. Barker and granddaughter of Stephen Adee, founder of the Delhi Telephone
Company, donated an 1848 Adee Family Signature Quilt to the Delaware County
Historical Association via family friend Lucile Frisbee during a recent trip
to
Delhi. She noted that Jane Barker wanted the quilt to remain in Delaware
County
for everyone to enjoy. It is one of five Signature Quilts in the DCHA
collection.

The quilt is in fair condition and measures a fraction over 92 by 83 inches
with 8-8.5 blocks hand stitched and quilted in a Chimney Sweep pattern. Each
block has the same pattern made with different material and a hand written
ink signature in the center. Family signatures include, among others, those
from the families of Kerr, Every, Thomas and MacDonald from Bloomville,
Delhi, Factoryville, Kortright, Stamford and Tioga.

This quilt can be viewed at an upcoming Quilt Show hosted by DCHA and the
Town and Country Quilters on Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September
21. The show will be held indoors at DCHA, 3 miles north of
Delhi on NY
State Route
10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

The show will also include quilts from the Delaware County Town and Country
Quilters, DCHA's antique collections and quilts made by local quilters.
Other activities include hands-on quilting lessons; a block contest; a slide
show on quilts in DCHA's collections (Saturday only); miniature quilts;
quilts in progress and quilting vendors. Discount fabric will also be
available for sale. The women of the West Delhi Presbyterian Church will
serve refreshments.

Admission to this unique event is only $3 and free for DCHA members. For
